Brilliant manoeuvre used by the late 'Generic Biker dude' aka The Burning Man to destroy the sedan which contained WMDs and probably terrorists. RIP dude and god bless the USA
that team of forwards though... good god. Harragon, Sargent, Butterfield (in the 2nd row) and Glanville.
Just how bad were Souths ? Shyte house , that is how bad.
my father player of all time but unfortunately the most overrated
duncan mcrae - ugh
The chief always looked like a cop.😂
Empty stadium….
Joey the GOAT for the halfs
Did he just said”especially for Mathew to take the ball to the line for Andrew Fifita to support..”Was there an Andrew Fifita at the league at that time then?
He actually said “Andrew to be there for support”
Did he just said Andrew Fifita at 2:00?Was there any Andrew Fifita at that time?
My god! The players list of Newcastle was awesome.
The ball comes out to Sargent, he promotes it to the Chief, he demotes it back to Sargent...
Greatest of All Time 🐐
Wasn’t his debut. He debuted the year prior against gold cast seagulls, this was his 3rd game.
Joey is the 🐐. In all honesty tho , I don't think the knights would have reached the 97 grand final without Matty Johns! Matty organised the team & set up a shitload of tries.
how many ees was he pinging this game
A immortal was born, the best I have seen, next was Thurston. these players weren't about breaking records like cam Smith but what Smith achieved in 400 game plus, Thurston and Johns did that in short course of their playing days.and they had class and never played dirty
Lmao the skill level of first grade was so shit back then
Right off his trolley🤣
Joey Johns is easily the greatest player to ever lace up a boot and it’s daylight second
Yeah whatever, lockyer, Thurston, cronk, Cameron Smith all shit on him
@@Matt-vr5zk hahaha bit mate for an April fools joke buddy
Must be why he played on the bench or at 5/8 or Hooker when Alfie wore the 7 for Australia. 😂😂 never forget the solitary time Joey got the 7 jumper over Alfie. Australia lost.
@@troystaunton254 so kinda like how langer was dropped from the Australian team entirely for Ricky Stuart after losing in 94. Also that year Langer played hooker and Stuart played halfback against Halifax. So if anyone rips on Johns about playing out of position then they’re hypocrites. Langer played at 9 and on the bench in the 94 test series multiple times
4:53 Can someone explain to me why back in the 80s and 90s people had jerseys numbered 40 or 50 and etc?
The spare jerseys
If a player pulled out of 1st Grade after the teamsheet was submitted they could be replaced in the team but couldn't be given the number of the player they were replacing because officially that number had already been assigned. With Reserve Grade the numbers went to 34 so the first number that could be given to a replacement player had to be higher than that. Clubs always had a set of spare jerseys incase that scenario occured
This was Joey's 4th first grade game. He played 3 games off the bench in 1993. Still an awesome performance for his 4th game of first grade though.
he never came on in those 3 games
@@blairhughes2906 he’s literally stated publicly his first game he came off the bench and played fullback because he lied to the coach and said he’d played heaps of fullback as a junior. So yeah even Joey is calling you an ignorant liar.
Matty Johns though. So underrated
@J G that’s great. Congrats 👏🏼
The greatest of all time!
I am a die hard Canberra Raiders fan but for me, Joey remains the greatest player of all times.
I lived in Newcastle in those days and to see people paint their houses Red & Blue was magic.
10 people there. Attendance hasn't risen.
@M 240 countries?? Better check your sources again, your making yourself look like a fool...
why no one use shoulder padding anymore like in the old days? will be considered weak??
They do its just taped to thier body and shoulders now
Wow, huge crowd!
This guy the 🐐
Absolute legend is Joey.He shits on all the other so called "immortals"!
No he really doesn’t.
@@troystaunton254 lol.you must be a queenslander.
This is such a precious video! Joey's first ever professional game. Starts at half back. Converts every goal including a penalty, and a field goal, sets up many tries and scores two extremely well earned ones. Wins the game. He's Man of the match. And all alongside his brother. Perfect start for the greatest of all time.
And at the one Australian club he'd ever play for!
How shit was Duncan McRae.
Easily the greatest performance of a debutant in rugby league.
@J G - You need some new material mate, your a complete flog🤡😜
Locky had a better debut
Definitely not there has been better debuts
@@karldrogo7994 who's locky
@user-ds1rx7jz8mTry watching 20 22 word cup soccer how boring
looks like the '70s
Allan McMahon, my first sporting hero. Was sad when he died. Never heard his voice before.
Those were the days.
You monster :P
That kill streak dude!
Shiiiiit that really wasn't a good round for me. Thanks for carrying the team!
ZOMG! we famous
There was some bloke called Clive Churchill.......Also, Raper, Langlands, Coote, Beetson, McCarthy, Sterling, Lewis, Lockyer, Langer, Thurston etc
all of those names have been asked who the best ever was and they all say Johns except Churchill because is was obviously not alive to see him
Clay Crawford I'd rate Wally Lewis above Andrew Johns.
hbg1968 BTW I am from Cessnock originally.
hbg1968 fair enough , I rate Johns above any player I have seen but that is my opinion . I would have Lockyer ahead of Lewis .
Clay Crawford I know a few people from Newcastle that played against Clive Churchill in the NSWRL in the 50s. ;-)
I'm a Queenslander to the core, and always will be! But Andrew Johns was a phenomenal player, he had every skill level that are Halfback was supposed to have, but what made him a great player, was that he heighten & evolved those very skills and executed them exceptionally well in match situations!! His leadership & confidence on the field rubbed off on his teammates, which resulted in every accolade he would receive in the game of Rugby League!! From Newcastle to New South Wales to Australia, he was always their best or one of the best on the field!! Obviously away from the field, was a different story, but as a Footballer, truly a phenomenal talent!!
are you really a qlder bro? never in my life have i heard so much sense by a toad. amazing lol
Slmikachew29 don’t forget an amazing defender
@@albertkelly7129 neither have I haha, must have secretly been born down south
@J. Al yeah it's funny how 4billion is 2 thirds of the world population and I know 0 people who watch or follow soccer at any level
@J. Al well I'm basing my statement off those I know well enough and I would only say like 30, other people I may know on a smaller basis may like the sport, I for one am not a fan of faking injuries the entire time
Andrew Johns was a good player. He is a great but I would not put him in the same league as Wally Lewis. He sucked at origin especially the 1995 series. Lockyer was as good as Johns, if not a better player too. And I think Jonathan Thurston would leave Johns in his wake at the end of his career. Johns is overrated!!!!!
Johns is one of the origin greats, definitely the greatest blue to ever play. The way he led the blues to the title in 2005 is probably the greatest individual performance in origin
I still think he was overrated...
+Brendon Kaupa wally lewis? lol are you high. The 3 greatest players ever are 1. Andrew Johns 2. Brad Fitler 3. Darren Lockyer those 3 are are untouchable by everyone for a long time
+Josh Mcklaren Brad Fittler #2 ? I don't think so .
Tom tonka lol. did you even watch him play? fitler johns and lockyer were in a league of their own compared to the rest of the NRL
The commentator said they were going to have a tough job choosing man of the match, does anyone know who ended up getting it?
***** Matthew or Andrew?
Well I was just joking about not knowing who was man of the match, but that's a very interesing bit of information there, unfortunately I can't find any footage of the aforementioned game between the Knights and the Chargers :(
yes he was the greatest! had all the skills, attack close to the line, tackling, toughness, kicking game, clutch plays and could play well at all levels ; club, nsw, Australia!
Easily the greatest player of all time! Wally is an absolute origin great, but didn't perform at club level. Locky is a statistics legend, but was an opportunist, he couldn't create things out of nothing and didn't have the artillery like joey did. Joey is a gem, absolute freak, legend of a player!
People who say Lewis didn't perform at club level obviously haven't watched much or any of his BRL career.
lockyer would have been close to johns but he couldn't tackle
Wally Lewis was the best, & I was from Cessnock NSW.
hbg1968 no he wasnt and no you werent dork
Albert Kelly Yes I was, till 1975. I went to Cessnock East Public School.
Bull definitely not the greatest
Definitely is
TheKCjaeProductions absolutely is
Greatest of all time.
Hahahaha
he also dropped his first pill before this game
Johnsy's actual debut was Round 6 of the 1993 NSWRL Season against the Gold Coast Seagulls but this is his debut at the starting 13. This brings back a lot of good memories of being a Knights fan, the following year was the start of the Knights Golden era which ran from 1995-2006.
@Tszyu neither will you
